tough and muddy
Posted in tough mudder on 09/16/2011 04:42 pm by mclovinI have been away from my blog since June, had to work through some personal garbage, but I am newly refreshed off of vacation with the people in the world I love the most, and I am ready to start a new chapter.
My lovely family and I are heading out to Nevada tonight to visit my sister and going to hit the summer slopes at Squaw Valley on Saturday as volunteers for the tough mudder event. My brother-in-law got this crazy idea that we should all train for this event and participate in 2012, well, being a member of seal team one back in the day, and running my share of obstacle courses, I said, um, duh, yes.
But this is no ordinary o course, this is a high-altitude, up-hill, 12 mile race with mud, water, ropes, walls, electric shocks, and fire. Sounds like fun right? Well it sounds fun to me! The obstacles were designed by the British special forces and the workout to prepare for the obstacles is crazy.
We are going to go check it out and see how completely insane it is, maybe I will be too scared to even go for it! Maybe not. After all, I have not run an obstacle course since I was 23 years old, that is TWENTY, yep, count them, 20 years ago.
One of the coolest parts of this event, aside from the fac that it benefits the Wounded Warrior Project is that it is a team event. The philosophy is that this is not an individual race, it is a team event, it’s your team’s job to make sure that all your members make it through, no matter what it takes.
In the spirit of our soldiers, I want to make it, and I want my team to make it and I think now that I have talked it all through, WE’RE DOIN’ IT!
HOO-YA!
